Alexander Sims has earned himself a chance to test a Formula 1 car for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes by reaching the final six for this year's McLaren Autosport BRDC Award. Past winners include Formula 1 stars David Coulthard and Jenson Button and for Alexander the competition will come as a fantastic climax to a truly stunning year; he ended the 2008 Formula Renault UK championship as highest points scorer with two race wins, 12 podiums, one pole and three fastest laps and was also one of three young drivers to be accepted into the MSA British Race Elite programme. The winner will be announced at the Autosport Awards in December after two days of intensive track testing next month. "I feel very privileged to be a finalist," said Alexander. "It's an incredible event and I can't wait to take part." Alexander is also preparing to compete at next months famous 55th Macau Grand Prix event as he builds up to racing Formula 3 in 2009.
